Schemes to Dreams - Bathrooms
Shouldn't a bathroom feel like a private sanctuary? Good bathroom design isn't just about the practicalities that ensure your daily routine is easy. It is also about the mood of the room and how you want it to feel.
The scheme: the working title for this room scheme was 'monastic chic.'Oxymoron? Maybe... you decide -see the finished result below.
The dream: A simple bathtub positioned in the window sits on a chequerboard tumbled marble floor. The curtains are unlined wool in the softest yellow and the walls are limewashed. The design is sleek and minimal, the materials all carefully considered.
The scheme: the request was for a feminine, calm and restful bathroom. The client loves pink and so we selected the zellige tiles but anchored the scheme with a simple black and white mosaic floor. How did it turn out?
The dream: it may be one of the smallest bathrooms we have designed but it's not short of luxury and charm. Unlacquered brass fittings will patina over time and sit elegantly on the pink tiles which have a lovely variation of tone. The linen shower curtain adds the necessary softness and the mosaic floor is a nod to Parisian hotel bathrooms. The client loves it. How does it make you feel?
The scheme: re-using the existing fixtures and fittings meant we could stretch the budget to add underfloor heating and new floor tiles. Fresh, floral and fabulous. Did it hit the spot?
The dream: plaster-pink walls are a flattering colour for any bathroom. We added a deep green paint to the underside of the existing roll top bath and a sheer fabric roller blind in the prettiest floral. Our client had worked tirelessly to turn the courtyard garden in to an oasis - now she can admire the view from the bath.
The scheme: bursting with colour and personality - which describes both the proposed scheme for a powder room and our lovely clients to a tee. We took a bold approach here, aiming to create a charming surprise, a little gem or jewel box of colour. And it worked a treat...
The dream: custom timber panelling painted in 'Invisible Green' enhances the confident choice of wallpaper. Fittings in polished nickel sit on a marble splashback and the room is completed with a vintage rattan mirror. Charming, whimsical and memorable. We kept the lighting low and painted the ceiling blue to lean in to the feeling of being surrounded by the jungle.
I think bathrooms, just like other rooms, should be a reflection of you as well as hard working functional spaces. This doesn't mean they need to be devoid of colour, pattern or even wallpaper if that is what you desire to create the right mood.
