When inspiration runs dry
Country sitting room completed with the help of an on-line interior design consultation
An online consultation may be just what you need to get things moving again. Conducted via Zoom, you can book sessions by the hour, and dip in and out for inspiration, advice and ideas on any interior design issues you have. Here are just a few examples of how I have helped so far from Norfolk to Ealing and points in between.
The charming sitting room, pictured above, is in a Queen Anne red brick, thatched house in Norfolk. The young couple had stalled on one room, which with the open fire place, is the room everyone gravitates to, but it was looking dated and unloved. Conditioned to the deep purple painted walls (oh yes!) that they inherited, they couldn't decide how to redecorate. After the Zoom call, they had a new direction and new-found confidence, enabling them to leave the previous era behind them, reclaiming this important room for their style of family life. This refresh, along with the generously-sized new sofa I suggested, was just what they needed to be able to enjoy fireside cuddles with their little girls, drinks and nibbles with friends or lazy Sunday mornings with coffee, croissants and the papers. Bliss.
Meanwhile, back in London in a Victorian terrace in Northfields, I made suggestions for the layout for a multi-use room which needed to be both dining room and playroom but with no windows, it relies on borrowed light from the kitchen. I suggested adding a large circular mirror to reflect light and the views to the garden, which would also provide a good foil for the portraits. They checked the size by making a simple paper template, something I always recommend. The suggested paint colour is warm and welcoming and a great backdrop for those portraits and the new gilt mirror.
Listening carefully, seeing their room with a fresh pair of eyes, drawing on my experience and expertise, helped this client organise and decorate their home better.
Elsewhere, another client had just moved in to a flat in a Victorian building after a divorce. It needed an overhaul and the client felt overwhelmed by decisions and fear of making expensive mistakes at a tricky time of life. The wooden floor with its orange tones was not making her happy but the budget did not stretch to new flooring. I recommended painting the floor in F&B Hague blue. Adding a patterned flat weave rug for softness and interest and a velvet sofa, with traditional styling, now means this room is not only comfortable but also beautiful, all without blowing the budget.
These are just a few examples of how a couple of hours spent on a Zoom call can be a very cost and time effective way to get your project moving again, and on the way to creating a space you love that really feels like home to you. Conundrums vary from decorating debacles, furniture furores, planning pitfalls and layout landmines - I am up for hearing it all. Our studio may be in West London but with this service I can help you wherever you are. You can find out more about this and other services we offer here .
